The story begun in 2003 when Andrea Neri (guitar) called Alessio Contorni (keyboards) to play in a rock-prog cover band but very soon the two guys decided to begin to perform their own music. So Alessio thought to call his old friend Daniele Corsi (voice) and they started to work togheter. First of all they begun to look for a drummer and a bass player: they found Ivan Macera (drums) and Fabio Fois (bass). The works begun on February 2003 and on June they were ready to record the first demo. Because of the cheap price paid to record it, the sound was not so nice, but it was a good choice to start playin’ live. On July Astarte Syriaca played live at “Alpheus” (Rome) with “Cialtroni Animati”. Stefano Bonelli wrote a very good review about the live performance and demo CD and he also wanted to interview Alessio and Andrea on “Tempi Duri.it” web-radio. On September Astarte played live twice: the first time at “Roma 70 Live” (Rome) and the second one at “Cube” (Rome) during a “Radio Rock Italia” event. After the performance at “Cube” something went wrong and Ivan decided to leave the band with no excuses. On January 2004, after 2 month of rehearsals without a drum player, Astarte Syriaca found the new drummer: Gabriele Valerio but the new sound and arrangements forced Fabio to leave the band in few months because he didn’t like the new metal-oriented sound of the last songs. Once again Astarte Syriaca were looking for a new member of the band, but this time they had to wait until October 2004. In the meanwhile they begun to record their second demo, the bass tracks were recorded by Alessandro Accardi. The demo was recorded in “16th Cellar Studio” by Stefano Morabito. This time Astarte had more care about sound and final production and the result was better than the first work. In October Astarte Syriaca signed a promotional contract with “Kick Agency” and, after few weeks a friend of Gabriele, Alfonso Pascarella, become the new bass player of the band. As a band of “Kick Agency” roaster, Astarte received a lot of reviews, their songs were listened to the radio in Italy and also in countries like Brazil, Bosnia, Canada and France finding a lot of audience and feedback. On April 2005 they played live at “Alpheus” (Rome) with “The Fifth Season” and “Moonlight Comedy” during the “Killer Prog Night” a showcase organized by “Kick Agency”. The next week they played live on “Avvertenze Generali” music contest at Stazione Birra (Rome). The guys received a very good comment from the jury but unfortunately with no results. On May 2005 Astarte begun to film their first videoclip “Winged Horses” directed by Riccardo Ponis with the actress Barbara Alesse. Unfortunately the things were going wrong another time and, on July, Gabriele decided to leave Astarte Syriaca. After putting a lot of messages in internet newsgroup and recording studios, the guys find the new drummer: Alessio Brancati. In november 2005 Astarte Syriaca organized a big gig at Stazione Birra togheter with The Fifth Season. This was the occasion to begin a new kind of performance which will give to them the name of Art progressive band: music, theatre and visual art fused togheter to make the audience amazing and to tell the stories written inside their music. A new concept of live gig!!! In December Astarte Syriaca entered studio to record their third work this time the idea was to produce a full lenght album and look for a label deal. “Darkened Light” promo was recorded at Zoo Symphony Studio in Rome by Marco Polizzi and Marco Vannozzi.
